The Eagles and the Demons met on the gridiron again in one of the nation’s best high school rivalries on a beautiful Friday night at the MAC. The Eagles sprinted out to an early then held on in the second half for their third consecutive victory in the series by the final score of 35-28.
The Eagles took the opening kickoff and drove to midfield before punting. The Eagles’ Thomas Brown picked off a Demon pass attempt to set the offense up in WR territory. With 4:18 left in the first quarter, Glenn Smith connected with senior Charlton Lane for a 19 yard touchdown pass. Isaac Rivera’s PAT gave Northside a 7-0 lead. The D forced a Demon punt that rolled into the endzone for a touchback, and the Eagles promptly went on a 6 play, 80 yard drive culminated by a 20 yard touchdown reception by Keshun Hill from Smith. Smith threw his third touchdown pass of the first half when he hooked up with Hill again from 28 yards out. Rivera kicked his third point after to give Northside a 21-0 lead with 2:28 left in the first half. The Eagle D forced another Demon punt and the Eagles drove down inside the Demon 10 before tossing an interception in the endzone as time expired.
The interception seemed to inspire the Demons as they came out in the second half for a long touchdown drive to get on the board with a 36 yard touchdown run to cut the lead to 21-7. The Demons tightened the game at the 5:59 mark of the third with another rushing touchdown. Northside pushed the lead back up to two touchdowns when they immediately answered the WR score with a 7 play – 64 yard drive. Keshun Hill scored on a electrifying 18 yard run to make the score 28-14 after Rivera’s PAT.
With 8:25 left in the game, WR cut the lead to 28-21 with a one yard TD run. The Demons got the ball back and was driving in Northside territory when senior Marquez Moore came up with a big interception and 27 yard return to the Demon 25 yard line. After no gain on first down, senior Keshun Hill again rose up with a sensational 25 yard touchdown run to give the Eagles a 35-21 lead with 2:49 left. The Demons would not die as they drove the length of the field for a touchdown with 2 seconds left in the game, but the failed onside kick sealed the victory for the Eagles and clinched another region championship. Northside moved to 9-0 on the year and travels to Evans next week for the final regular season game before the playoffs begin.
