Game Recap
The Eagles pushed their all-time record against the Houston Co. Bears to 14-0 with a 21-0 victory over the Bears. The shutout marked the fifth time in the last 7 years that the Eagles have shutout Houston Co.
The Bears took the opening kickoff and put together a 13 play / 52 yard drive that took 6 minutes off the first quarter clock before the Eagles’ Marquez Moore intercepted a pass on the 10 yard line and ran it all the way back 90 yards for a touchdown. Dillon Mixon kicked the PAT for a 7-0 lead. The Bears put together a couple more time consuming drives in the first half using a ball control, short passing attack but the Eagle defenders continually toughened up the closer the Bears got to the endzone. One drive ended with Northside senior cornerback Devinci Sanders partially blocking a FG attempt, and senior LB Chris Crawford added an interception for the Eagle defense. The Eagle offense could not sustain anything despite moving the ball well in the first half due to a several back-breaking penalties that wiped our huge offensive plays. So the teams went into the locker room at halftime with the Eagles still holding onto that 7 point lead.
In the second half, the Eagles came out with a mindset to run the ball right at the Bears and to control the clock a little more themselves, and they began to take control of the game by doing so. With 4:03 left in the third quarter, Jack Montgomery scored on an electrifying 57 yard touchdown run to punctuate a 7 play / 91 yard drive and to push the Northside lead to 14-0 with Mixon’s PAT. The Eagle defense began to put more and more pressure on the Bear passing attack and slowly began to assert their dominance as the yards became much tougher for the Bears. The Eagles iced the game with 8:13 left in the game with a 6 play / 68 yard drive that ended with a 14 yard touchdown run up the middle by senior Marte Polk. Mixon’s third PAT on the night made the final score 21-0 in favor of the Eagles on this Homecoming night for Northside High.
The Eagles next face the other Northside, Northside-Columbus next Thursday night at the MAC in attempt to keep their perfect 2011 record intact.
