It was Homecoming night for the Houston Co. Bears when they hosted Eagles, but Northside did not let the celebration extend to the field as they dominated the Bears by a score of 42-0 for their thirteenth straight victory in the series.
Steven Nelson made an acrobatic interception of a HoCo pass in to set up the first score of the night for the Eagles. Chris Vickers caught a 25 yard touchdown pass from Briar Van Brunt with 3:13 left in the first quarter. Dillon Mixon added the PAT and Northside led 7-0. Less than three minutes later, Van Brunt had the Eagles in the endzone again after a 12 yard touchdown pass to Stephon Cross. Mixon’s point after made the score 14-0 with 28 seconds left in the first quarter. The score remained the same until halftime.
On the first drive of the second half, the Eagle D forced a “3 & out” – one of 11 Houston Co. punts on the night. The offense wasted no time in driving down the field and found the endzone again when Van Brunt ran in for a touchdown from 8 yards out with 9:06 left in the third quarter. The Mixon PAT made the score 21-0. The Northside defense forced another punt on the next series and Stephen Nelson made his former team pay for kicking it to him. The senior started up the right sideline, then reversed field and outran everyone for a 67 yard punt return touchdown – his fourth of the year.
The Eagles finished off the scoring in fourth quarter with a Marte Polk 3 yard touchdown dive and Mixon PAT and then a 8 yard fumble recovery and return for a touchdown by Bob Durham which was followed by the PAT from Isaac Rivera for a final score of 42-0. The shutout was the third of the year by the Eagle defense. The Eagles raise their record to 8-0 overall and 5-0 in Region 1-AAAA.
