Game Recap
SCORING:
Carey Jackson 23 yard pass from Charles Toliver; Richard Holmes PAT
Richard Holmes 46 yard FG
Baldwin Co. came into the game unbeaten and ranked #4 in the state. The Eagles, facing their toughest opponent of the season, responded by going toe-to-toe with the favored Braves. Trailing 13-10 with 3:55 left in the game, the Eagles took over at the Brave 47 yard line and began on the game's final drive. After methodically moving down the field and with both stands rocking, the Eagles called a timeout with 11 seconds left with the ball on the 1 yard line. The Eagles called 2 plays in the huddle because they had no more timeouts. The first play was an off-tackle power run by Richard Holmes who was stopped just shy of the goaline. With no timeouts remaining, the Eagles rushed to line up again and got the snap off with 2 seconds left in the game, however, QB Charles Toliver and FB Henry Stubbs collided slightly in the backfield which was just enough for the Braves to swarm Toliver before he could hand off to Holmes again and the game ended with the Eagles one yard away from the upset.
Northside fell to 4-2 overall and 1-1 in 2-AAAA sub-region play. Baldwin Co. improved to 6-0 (2-0).
