Game Recap
The Eagles defeated Valdosta in an old school 'slobber-knocker' by a score of 16-7 to go 1-0 in Region 1-AAAAAA play. Neither team scored an offensive touchdown. Northside took a 3-0 lead with 9:13 left in the second quarter on a 32 yard Cory Munson field goal. It appeared that the field goal would be the only scoring of the first half until the Wildcats intercepted a pass returned it 30 yards for a TD and a 7-3 halftime lead.
With 13 seconds left in the third quarter, the Eagles forced a Valdosta punt from their own 7 yard line. The Wildcat punter mishandled the snap before regaining control but then was hit by Northside's Alijah McGhee forcing a fumble that Maulik Winfield recovered for an Eagle touchdown. The PAT was missed however and the game went to the fourth quarter with Northside in the lead 9-7.
The Eagle defense continued its outstanding play in the fourth quarter led by Braxton Golden's 2 sacks and 5 solo tackles and 5 assists. The Eagle D also had 3 other QB sacks on the night. The game was sealed when Tubby McCall recorded his second interception on the night (4 total for the Eagle D) and returned it 78 yards for the clinching touchdown.
