Game Recap
Northside bounced back from their disappointing loss in week 9 against the Demons by defeating the Evans Knights by a score 35-13 to end the regular season at 9-1.
After a scoreless first quarter, Evans took the early lead on a 1 yard TD run with 9:08 left in the first half. The Evans score seemed to wake up the Eagles as they responded 4 minutes later with a 25 yard touchdown pass to Arlie Weber from Glenn Smith. Isaac Rivera's PAT tied the game at 7. The Northside special teams then exploded twice before the half to push the halftime lead to 21-7. First with 2:45 left before half, A.J. Booker returned a punt 57 yards for a TD. Then with 19 seconds left, Northside used their last timeout to set up their punt block team, and the strategy worked as a wave of Eagles broke through and Evander Peterson blocked the punt which was scooped up Tyree Williams and returned 35 yards for a touchdown.
Evans scored with 7:27 to cut into the lead but Holmes blocked the point after to hold the Eagle lead at 21-13. In the fourth quarter, Nate Greene hauled in a 14 yard touchdown pass from Marcus Ivory; Rivera's PAT pushed the lead to 28-13. Jamaal Joyner ended the scoring with a 13 yard TD run with 2:13 left in the game and Rivera's PAT made the final score 35-13.
The Eagles will host the McIntosh Chiefs next Saturday night at the MAC in the first round of the state playoffs.
