Northside improved to 7-0 on the season and 4-0 in the region with a 35-0 victory over the Jones Co. Greyhounds. The victory was the third over Jones Co. in three games in NHS history and the shutout was also the third in three tries.
With 4:26 left in the first quarter, senior Curtis Martin got the Eagles on the board with a one yard touchdown run. The Isaac Rivera PAT gave Northside a 7-0 lead. At the 3:34 mark of the second quarter, Martin was in the endzone again – this time on a 4 yard run. Rivera’s PAT made the score 14-0. On Jones Co.’s next possession, defensive end Austin Roberts sacked the Greyhound QB and forced a fumble that was scooped up by A.J. Banks who returned it 24 yards for a touchdown. Rivera made the halftime score 21-0. The defense added to the score in the third quarter when Rodney Levine stepped in front of a Greyhound pass and picked it off and ran it back 22 yards for a touchdown. The Rivera PAT made the score 28-0. The Eagles finished the scoring with six minutes left in the game when Glenn Smith connected with Keshun Hill for a 11 yard touchdown pass, and Rivera’s final point after on the night made the final score 35-0.
The Eagles continue region play next week at the MAC against Greenbriar.
