The Eagles improved to 6-0 and 3-0 in the region with a 56-14 victory over the Grovetown Warriors. After forcing the Warriors to punt on their first possession of the game, the Eagles marched 44 yards in 5 plays for the game’s first score when junior QB Glenn Smith hooked up Keshun Hill for a 14 yard touchdown pass. Isaac Rivera’s PAT gave the Eagles the early 7-0. The lead lasted all of 17 seconds as Grovetown took the ensuing kickoff 97 yards for a touchdown and tie game. The Eagles regained the lead with 27 seconds left in the opening quarter when Hill ran in from 4 yards out; Rivera’s point after gave the Eagles a lead they would not relinquish at 14-7. Two minutes into the second quarter, Glenn Smith scored from 3 yards out and Rivera booted the extra point for a 21-7 score. With 8:24 to go in the second quarter, Smith scored on a 22 yard touchdown run. Rivera’s point after made it 28-7. Curtis Martin scored from a yard out with 5:40 left in the half and Marcus Ivory scored 4 minutes later on a 8 yard touchdown run. Rivera was perfect on both PATs to give the Eagles a 42-7 halftime lead.
With a running clock in the second half and mass substitutions by the Eagle coaching staff, the Eagles added 2 more touchdowns on a Hill 77 yard TD Run and a 39 yard Willie Jordan run. Rivera and John Tignor converted the 2 PATs for a 56-7 lead with 10:20 left in the game. Grovetown added a late touchdown for a final score of 56-14.
The Eagles travel to Jones County next Friday for a clash with the Greyhounds.
