Game Recap
The Northside Eagles hosted the Glynn Academy Terrors of Region 2 at the MAC in a first round matchup of the AAAA state playoffs. The Eagles were looking to avenge last season’s first round exit from the playoffs. The Terrors dominated time of possession in the first half with 2 long drives around an Eagle offense 3 and out and a 69 yard punt return for a touchdown by Keshun Hill to give the Eagles a 7-0 first quarter lead. Glynn collected a 25 yard FG in the second quarter, but the Eagles answered back at the 1:56 mark of the quarter with Hill scampering in from 29 yards out for a rushing TD. Dillon Mixon’s second PAT gave Northside a 14-3 halftime lead.
The Eagle came out on fire in the third quarter and put the game away with four touchdowns. Curtis Martin started the onslaught with a 7 yard touchdown run. Marte Polk then exploded for a 61 yard TD. QB Jack Montgomery then hooked up with tight end Jaleel Morris for a beautiful 40 yard touchdown pass. Martin ended the onslaught with 4 seconds left in the third quarter with a 5 yard run. Dillon Mixon connected on all 4 PATs to extend the Northside lead to 42-3 at the end of the third. With a running clock in the fourth quarter and the Eagles substituting liberally, the Terror tacked on a couple of touchdowns in the fourth quarter for a final score of 42-16.
Northside advances to the second round of the playoffs next week when they host the Clarke Central Gladiators from Region 2 in Athens, GA. This will be the first meeting of all time for these two long-time high school powers.
