Game Recap
Northside opened its region schedule with a dominating 31-0 victory over the visiting Bainbridge Bearcats on Saturday afternoon at McConnell-Talbert Stadium. The Eagle defense suffocated the Bearcat split back veer offense and held them to 37 rushing yards and only 59 total yards. These were the exact numbers the Bearcats had at halftime as Northside held Bainbridge to zero yards of total net offense in the second half.
Northside senior quarterback Jack Montgomery had another nice day passing the football as he completed 14 of 21 passes for one touchdown and 190 yards. The Eagles opened the scoring at the 9:01 point of the first quarter when Montgomery hooked up with senior running back Marte Polk for a 38 yard touchdown pass. Dillon Mixon’s PAT made the score 7-0. Six minutes later, Mixon drilled a 36 yard FG to run the Northside lead to 10-0. With 4:04 left in the second quarter, Curtis Martin ran for a 7 yard touchdown. Mixon’s PAT made the halftime score 17-0.
Less than 2 minutes into the third quarter, Montgomery scored on a 2 yard touchdown run, and with 7:43 left in the game, Martin scored his second touchdown of the night – this time from 4 yards out. Mixon ended his perfect kicking night by drilling both PATs for the final score of 31-0. The Eagle defense created four turnovers of the Bearcat offense. Rodney Levine and Marquez Moore each had interceptions, and Corey Lockett and Austin Roberts each recovered a fumble to lead the dominating Northside defense.
The victory pushed the Eagle regular season record to 4-0 (1-0 in Region 1-AAAA) as they begin preparation for next week’s annual showdown with their cross-town rival, the Warner Robins Demons on Friday night at the MAC.
