The Eagles ran their 2011 record to 3-0 on Saturday night with a 57-14 victory over the visiting Lakeside Panthers. Senior QB Jack Montgomery led the Northside offense with 116 yards rushing and 1 TD plus 127 yards passing and a TD pass.
Senior kicker Dillon Mixon began the scoring onslaught in the first quarter with a 19 yard FG after Marquez Moore intercepted a Panther pass. With 3:32 left in the first quarter, Montgomery hooked up with Adonis Hampton for a 5 yard touchdown pass to culminate a 10 play / 90 yard drive. Two and a half minutes later, Curtis Martin scored a touchdown from 7 yards out. In the second quarter, Miguel Williams scored from 28 yards out on an end-around on a fourth and 3 play to give the Eagles a 24-0 lead. At the 6:20 mark of the quarter, Montgomery scored on a 40 yard run. Less than a minute later, the Eagle defense forced another Lakeside punt, but the snap sailed over the punter’s head into and out of the endzone for a safety to make the score 33-0. With 4:29 left in the first half, backup QB Glenn Smith (Soph) scored from 30 yards out. Mixon connected on fifth of 5 first half PATs to make the score 40-0. At the 1:54 mark of the second quarter, Mixon ended his scoring night with a 47 yard FG for a 43-0 lead. With 20 seconds left in the half, Lakeside finally got on the board with a 31 yard touchdown pass to send the teams into the locker room with the score 43-7 in favor of the home team.
Marte Polk scored on a 7 yard run early in the third quarter. Sophomore John Tignor added the PAT for a 50-7 lead. Lakeside added their final score of the night with a 13 yard run with 1:56 left in the third quarter. Northside ended the scoring with 6:05 in the fourth quarter when sophomore A.J. Booker scored on a 6 yard touchdown run. Tignor was again good with the PAT for a final score of 57-14.
Northside opens Region 1-AAAA play next Saturday afternoon when they host Bainbridge at the MAC.
