Game Recap
The Eagles improved their record to 2-0 on the 2011 season with a 51-0 victory over Kendrick. Northside rolled up 429 yards of total offense and held Kendrick to only 29 yards as Eagles emptied the bench early to beat the ‘mercy rule’ running clock.
Northside’s first score came with 4:54 left in the first quarter when Curtis Martin ran in from 4 yards out for a touchdown. Dillon Mixon added the PAT for the 7-0 lead. With 53 seconds left in the quarter, Jack Montgomery hooked up with Keshun Hill for a 38 yard touchdown pass. Mixon’s PAT gave the Eagles a 14-0 lead. Martin was in the endzone again 13 seconds into the 2nd quarter – this time on a 13 yard TD run. Mixon’s PAT made the score 21-0. Sophomore backup quarterback Glenn Smith then lead the Eagles on a 5-play / 72 yard drive culminating in a 13 yard TD run by Marte Polk. Smith was 2 for 2 passing on the drive. With 5:54 left in the half, cornerback Lee Bradley intercepted his second pass of the game at the Kendrick 7 yard line and returned the pick into the endzone for a touchdown. Mixon’s fifth PAT of the half made the score 35-0. Finally, with 4 seconds left in the half, Mixon drilled a 34 yard field goal to send Northside to the locker room with a 38-0 halftime lead.
With the clock running in the second half, the Northside coaching staff ran substitutes into the game with each snap. At the 8:02 mark of the third quarter, Polk scored on a 14 yard run. The PAT by Cody Gary was no good. The scoring ended with 56 seconds left in the third quarter when Donte Bryant scored on a 34 yard touchdown run. Gary’s PAT was good for a final score of 51-0.
Northside is off next weekend before taking on Lakeside of Augusta at the MAC.
