Game Recap
The Eagles traveled to the “Hog Pen” in Moultrie, GA for the final regular season game of the year to take on the Colquitt Co. Packers. The “Hog Pen” could not contain senior running back Xavier Bacon as he ran up wild and free all over the pen in leading Northside to a convincing 31-7 over the Packers.
The Eagles took the opening kickoff and promptly marched 63 yards in 6 plays – highlighted by Bacon’s 46 yard scamper – into the Packer endzone on a 1 yard plunge from Bacon. Devon Pike converted the PAT and the Eagles led 7-0 with 9:01 left in the opening quarter. Northside’s second drive stalled but Pike came through by drilling a 44 yard field goal at the 3:12 mark of the first quarter to give the Eagles a 10-0 lead. Bacon was in the endzone again early in the second quarter after a 38 yard TD run. Pike’s PAT made the score 17-0 with 11:17 left before half. The Eagles and Bacon were not finished as he scampered into the endzone once again from 8 yards out following an interception by senior Brian Jones – one of 4 picks by the Eagle secondary on the night (Sean Rich, K.J. Morton, & Brison Williams had the other 3 interceptions). Pike’s PAT made the halftime score 24-0.
Bacon ended his night with a 3 yard TD run with 7:25 left in the game. Alex Crist came on to add the PAT to give Northside a 31-0 lead. Colquitt Co. scored on a 69 yard TD pass with 2:30 left in the game on Northside’s third and fourth string defenders for the final score of 31-7.
The Eagles end the regular season with a 9-1 record --- 6-1 in their first season in Region 1-AAAAA and finished in second place behind Lowndes Co. The Eagles will now host the first round playoff game at the MAC next Friday night.
