Game Recap
Not much doubt in this contest as the Eagles dominated from the very start of this region "play-in" game. Seeded against the #3 seed from the north subregion, the Luella Lions, the #2 seeded Eagles took care of business. Northside won the coin toss and deferred to the 2nd half. The Eagle defense held Luella on their first possession and forced a punt after 3 plays. It only took the Eagles 4 plays to score as Mike Tye ran in from the 15 yard line with Sean Mayo adding the extra point to put the home team up 7-0 barely 3 minutes into the game. After another Lions punt, the boys in blue scored again as Jacobi Rodriquez connected with Nick Cherney for a 1 yd TD pass. After recovering a kickoff fumble, the offense was in business once more as Jacobi conntected with Spencer Hill on a 22 yard TD strike. A little over 2 minutes later, Jacobi scored on an 8 yd run. This put the Eagles up 28-0 at the end of the 1st quarter. The defense had not given up a 1st down at this point.
The 2nd quarter featured more of the same as Jacobi connected with D'Anthony Harris on a 56 yd TD. Mayo added the last of his 5 extra points to go up 35-0. Mike Tye scored once more on a 4 yd run as Jan Oliva booted the first of his 3extra points in relief of Mayo. David Everitt got into the action on a 6 yd plunge to put the Eagles up 49-0 at halftime.
In the 3rd quarter, Jarvis Williams returned a punt 60 yds for a score to end the scoring for the night for Northside. The Lions finally go on the scoreboard with 5:19 left in the 4th quarter on a 2 yd TD run. By this time, the defense on the field was mostly 9th graders. The stingy defense allowed only 50 points on the 10 game regular season to go into the record books as the 2nd best of all time for Northside. A lot of players were able to participate in this game due to the lopsided score.
