Game Recap
The Eagles were again victorious over one of their rivals tonight. They defeated Houston County to remain perfect in their history against the Bears with their sixth victory in six meets. It was another huge region win for the boys in blue. Northside kicked off to the Bears to open the game and held them to 3 and out on the initial possession of the game. The Eagles took over on the 21 yard line and put together a 10 play drive that was stalled by 4 penalties yet yielded a 37 yard Sean Mayo field goal to put the home team up 3-0 at the 3:28 mark of the first quarter.
The defense would again force a punt from the Bears and the offense took over on the 17 yard line. This time the Eagles put together a 7 play touchdown drive that ended on a 37 yard run by senior quarterback Ferlando Williams. Mayo added the point after to give the Eagles a 10-0 lead with 4:58 remaining in the first half. The defense again held Houston Co to 3 and out and the snap was bobbled by the punter and Northside took over at the Bear 17 yard line. With just 59 seconds left in the half, Ferlando Williams again found the end zone on a one yard plunge. Mayo again added the extra point to give the Eagles a 17-0 lead at halftime.
The second half would see a lot of punts and possessions turned over on downs. After failing to convert on 4th down, the Eagles turned the ball over to the Bears and Houston Co scored on a pass from Brandon King to Ronnie Hiley with only 4:25 remaining in the game. The offense turned the ball over on downs again at the 2:15 mark and the Bears took advantage of it with a 25 yard TD pass from King to Billy Mitchell to pull the Bears within 3 points. However, there was only 3 seconds left in the game and the Eagles only had to cover the kickoff to seal the victory which they did. Northside held on to win 17-14 over the Bears.
