Game Recap
The Eagles traveled to 4th ranked and unbeaten Statesboro for their third matchup with a state ranked team, and once again came up just short.
The Eagles started strong offensively but turnovers would be their downfall. Northside drove 77 yards on its first possession before fumbling the ball away to Statesboro. The Eagles took their second possession and this time drove 80 yards on 13 plays before QB Charles Toliver sneaked in from one yard out. Richard Holmes kicked the PAT. Statesboro answered right back with a 71 yard TD drive but the PAT was no good. Statesboro had one more scoring shot before the half, but Felton Farms blocked their 19 yard FG attempt.
The Blue Devils struck quickly in the third quarter when Cassius Osborn (eventual UGA signee) scored on a 76 yard TD pass. The PAT again failed but Statesboro added to its lead in the fourth quarter by scoring on a fourth down play after an 11 play 88 yard drive. The 2-pt attempt was no good and Statesboro led 18-7.
The Eagles drove down to the Blue Devil 29 before fumbling again. They got the ball back but threw an interception on the second play of the drive. The Eagle D gave the offense one more chance when senior DB Barry Jones recovered a Statesboro fumble. Toliver connected with Andy Koth on a 43 yard pass down to the 13, but the Eagles would get no closer as Toliver threw his second interception 3 plays later.
Statesboro improved to 8-0. The Eagles fell to 5-3 overall (3-1 in sub-region), but the non-region defeat all but eliminated the Eagles from the playoffs because of tie breakers.
